The opening ceremony of the symbolic Ikh Khuraldai Palace, representing the Nine White Banners—the sacred symbol of Mongolian state- was held on June 22, 2025, in Binder soum of Khentii Province, the historic region where the Ikh Khuraldai was first convened, Chinggis Khaan was proclaimed Khaan.
Based on historical sources and scholarly research, the Government of Mongolia approved the construction of the Ikh Khuraldai complex in the natural setting of the confluence of the Onon and Khurkh rivers, near Tsagaan Nuur, in harmony with the region's geographical and environmental features. It features important elements such as the Nine White Banners- the sacred state symbol established by Chinggis Khaan, the Sun Seal, and a seal of Guyuk Khaan’s stamp, ceremonial chair (iser sandal), banners, creating a space of reverence of kings.
Each gate of the complex displays inscriptions in traditional Mongolian script, citing references from historical chronicles such as The Secret History of the Mongols, Shar Tuuj (The Yellow Story), and Asragch Nertiin Tuukh (History of the Asragch). Notably, the entire complex has been built without the use of a single nail, using traditional interlocking wood joinery methods, combining national heritage with modern design elements. The main structure is a white ger-style palace measuring 21 meters in diameter and 21 meters high, built on nine steps. The entrance is made of Mongolian grown larch wood and is adorned with eternal motifs and ornaments symbolizing eternity.
The construction of the Ikh Khuraldai complex was funded by the state budget through the investment package of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for 2018–2023. In 2024, it was officially transferred to the Chinggis Khaan National Museum by a resolution of the Mongolian Policy Coordination and State Property Agency.
The opening ceremony was attended by director and department heads of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Chairman of the Khentii Province Citizens’ Representative Khural B. Tsogt-Orshikh, Binder soum’s Citizens’ Representative Khural Chairperson Urtnasan, Governor of Khentii province Ts. Demberelsaikhan, and local residents.
Construction of the “Great Mongol Empire and Mongolian Empire” complex was carried out by Munkh-Urgoo LLC, the interior design, artistic carvings, and external electrical systems were completed by Khangain Tsagaan Chuluu LLC. The foundation works, outdoor landscaping, and utility connections were jointly undertaken by Munkh-Urgoo LLC and Nutgiin Baruun Mod LLC.
