COMMEMORATING THE 130TH ANNIVERSARY OF MONGOLIAN STATE “WISE GRANDFATHER” J. SAMBUU

This year marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of Jamsrangiin Sambuu, a revered figure who is widely known as “Wise Grandfather of the Mongolian State” among the people. In recognition of his legacy, resolutions have been issued by the State Great Khural and the Government of Mongolia to honor his achievements.

To commemorate his invaluable contributions to Mongolia’s economic and social development, the strengthening of international relations, the promotion of peace, and the advancement of the civil service, several events have been organized to promote his life and work. These include an academic conference, the launch of a book titled “Collection of Documents”, and a special exhibition “Legacy and Lessons”, which opened on June 27, 2025, at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum.

At the opening of this event, Mongolian Prime Minister G. Zandanshatar attended and said, “J. Sambuu, was known to the people as the ‘Wise Grandfather of the Mongolian State,’ was not only a distinguished diplomat who helped shape and institutionalize the civil service, but also a principled and just leader who was deeply empathetic toward the lives of ordinary citizens. During the difficult years of war, he stood firmly, serving nine years as Ambassador to the Soviet Union in Moscow and two years in Democratic People's Republic of Korea, effectively strengthening Mongolia’s diplomatic presence. He was a true statesman who laid the foundation for diplomatic and public service traditions.”

At the event, greetings from President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa were read by Chief of Office of the President of Mongolia A. Uilstogoldor, and a message from Chairman of the Parliament, Member of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia D. Amarbayasgalan was delivered by Deputy Secretary General of the Secretariat of the State Great Hural U.Amarbat.

The “Legacy and Lessons” special exhibition includes sections showcasing J. Sambuu’s life and career, a Mongolian calligraphy display themed “Words of Wisdom,” as well as personal belongings, photographs, documents, books, and other archival materials.

The opening ceremony was attended by Chief Cabinet Secretary S.Byambatsogt, Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia Ch. Undram, Members of Parliament, statesmen, public figures, relatives of J.Sambuu, and people from his province.
