The exhibition of collector R. Otgonbaatar on the theme of "Mongolian Book and Script Culture" was opened in the special exhibition hall on the 9th floor of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum and has become a public exhibition. (2025.09.17) This exhibition is a private collection gathered over almost fifty years. It is special because it shares the 1,000 year old tradition of Mongolian books and related artifacts with future generations.
The exhibition briefly presents the historical development of Mongolian script, with a focus on illustrated Mongolian books and sutras. In particular, it highlights sections of Mongolian woodblock-printed books and also displays hand-drawn and manuscript versions of illustrated texts side by side for comparison.
Collector R. Otgonbaatar, in accordance with his professional knowledge and interests, has been collecting Mongolian writing instruments and rare Mongolian scriptures since his student days, holding numerous solo exhibitions in his homeland and promoting Mongolian heritage and culture, as well as exhibiting his collections in countries such as Russia, Poland, France, and Romania.
At the opening of this exhibition, the international academic conference “Linguistic and Literary Studies 2025” is being held to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Kh. Luvsanbaldan, Doctor of Linguistics, and the 70th birthday of Dr. R. Otgonbaatar, Honorary Doctor of the Institute of Language and Literature.
