
Academician S. Chuluun, Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, is participated in the International Conference on Xiongnu Studies, was being held in Budapest, Hungary. (2025.11.05)
The Hungarian Public Cultural Heritage Agency and the Hungarian National Museum jointly organized the international conference “Eurasian Civilization and Sectoral Research - Archaeological Cultural Networks and Their Interactions”. Academician S. Chuluun delivered the opening remarks at the event.
In his speech, he noted that Mongolia is home to the largest archaeological sites related to Xiongnu studies. Over the past 100 years, significant research findings have been presented in the Chinggis Khaan National Museum. In recent years, the museum has also initiated large-scale research projects on Xiongnu aristocratic tomb complexes and is leading efforts to have these monumental sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The final meeting to discuss to register of major Xiongnu aristocratic burial complexes including Gol Mod 1 and 2, the Noyon Uul Monument, Takhiltiin Khotgor, Chikhertiin Zoo in Bayantsagaan soum of Tuv Province, and Duurlig Nars in Khentii Province on the UNESCO World Heritage List is scheduled to take place in 2026.
Also, Academician S. Chuluun met with Gábor, Director of the Hungarian National Museum, and successfully negotiated the opening of the exhibition of the Hunnic peoples during the Attila era in Europe at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum in October of next year.
The international conference brings together participants from the Hungarian National Museum, institutes of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Mongolian Studies, as well as researchers from China, the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia), the Institute of Archaeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan.
