THE CHINGGIS KHAAN NATIONAL MUSEUM AND THE VATICAN APOSTOLIC LIBRARY SIGN A “MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING”

Since its establishment, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum has been working on registering, jointly studying, training specialists, and copying documents and artifacts related to Mongolian history around the world.

During the President of Mongolia’s State Visit to the Italian Republic, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” with the Vatican Apostolic Library, also known as the Papal Secret Library of the Holy See, to establish cooperation. (2025.12.04)

Within the framework of the Memorandum, the parties agreed to cooperate in four main areas. These include:

- Exchange of scholars and experts, especially research with special attention to the history of the Mongolian Empire;

- Sharing knowledge and experience related to manuscripts, books, and documentary heritage;

- Bibliography, library science, archives, and information technology systems and development;

- Organizing joint conferences and academic meetings, and supporting joint research;

By working together, the two sides will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with and study research materials, source documents, and rare archival documents related to Mongolian history stored in the country's libraries, and the exchange of scholars will improve the quality of research.

In particular, there will be an opportunity to conduct research on documents related to the history of the Mongolian Empire.

The Vatican Apostolic Library is one of the oldest and most valuable libraries in the world, and it houses thousands of years of history, manuscripts, ancient books, archival materials, printed books, maps, and coins and medals. Currently, the library has more than 1.6 million books and about 80 thousand manuscripts, which are valuable sources of world religion, science, art, culture, and history.
