“THE HISTORY OF MONGOLIA IN 30 VOLUMES” PROJECT HAS BEGUN

By decree of Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, the work of compiling the History of Mongolia (volumes I–XXX) has been centralized at the Academy of Sciences, where an editorial board has been established and preparatory work has already begun.

The complete history of Mongolia was published in one volume (1954), three volumes (1966–1968), and five volumes. (2002) volumes had been published, this time, with the aim of providing the public with a unified understanding of their national history by broadly involving historians and scholars from across the country, the project to write the complete history of Mongolia has now begun.

Ceremony to present certificates for the scholars selected as editors and authors of The History of Mongolia (30 volumes) was held in the Conference Hall of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences on February 23, 2026, with participating historians and researchers who will contribute to the work.

During the certificate award ceremony, the project’s chief editor, Academician S. Chuluun, stated, the History of Mongolia in 30 Volumes is the largest official state history written, covering all periods of Mongolia’s past. Throughout Mongolian history, this will be the most extensive history commissioned by the Mongols themselves, by their own state. Every word and sentence we strive to include in the 30-volume History of Mongolia we are creating will, in the future, remain an indisputable historical record of the course and essence of Mongolian history.

During the ceremony, Ch. Lodoiravsal, Advisor to the President of Mongolia on Education, Science, and Technology Policy, read the presidential decree and formally presented it to Academician S. Demberel, President of the Academy of Sciences.

More than 150 historians and scholars are participating in the project, including 9 academicians, 19 Doctors of Science (Sc.D), 107 Ph.D holders, and 14 master’s degree holders. These participants come from professional research institutes, centers, museums, and universities, and are highly qualified specialists with deep expertise across various periods and fields of Mongolian history.

The 30-volume History of Mongolia covers the period from Mongolia's most ancient history to the present day, with 10 volumes from the ancient history to the Great Mongolian Empire, 10 volumes covering the Great Mongolian Empire and subsequent khanates up to the 17th century, 10 volumes covering the period from Qing rule to the present day. It will be a comprehensive national-level work that fully incorporates the results of over 30 years of historical research in Mongolia and addresses many controversial issues.
