THE CHINGGIS KHAAN NATIONAL MUSEUM EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO HONORARY CONSUL KAWAUCHI SHIRO

Since the establishment of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, numerous efforts have been undertaken to obtain permissions, reproduce, and acquire copies of historical artifacts related to the Mongol Empire from around the world.

Since then, Kawauchi Shiro, the Honorary Consul of Japan and a close friend of the Mongolian people, has played a special role in obtaining permission to reproduce the “A” copy of Chinggis Khaan’s “Golden Gerege”, which is preserved at the Sankokan Museum of Tenri University in Japan. Through his efforts, Mongolians have been given the opportunity to see a tangible artifact from the time of Chinggis Khaan’s life.

He also contributed by providing a reproduction of a historical war painting depicting Khubilai Khan’s invasion, which is registered in the Imperial Household Agency’s collection of the Emperor of Japan. This artwork relates to the naval fleet of Khubilai Khan, the largest fleet of its kind until the 20th century, demonstrating that although the Mongols established the greatest empire in human history on land, they were also powerful at sea. A sword that is likely to be from the Yuan Dynasty of Mongolia, presented to the President of Mongolia, and a copy of a letter written by Kublai Khan, Emperor of the Great Yuan, to the Emperor of Japan, were copied to the Chinggis Khaan National Museum without any payment. In recognition of his contributions, the Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Academician S. Chuluun, received him with honor, guided him through the museum’s exhibition halls, and presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation on March 5, 2026.

At this time, Director S. Chuluun stated, "Kawauchi Shiro is a distinguished person who has contributed to Mongolian history with his heart and made the wonders of Mongolian history known not only to the Mongolian people but also to foreign visitors who came to see Mongolian history, and has made a valuable contribution to the treasury of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum.

At the end of the visit, Shiro Kawauchi paid his respects at the Chinggis Khaan Hall of Honor and the Golden Statue, praising them as remarkable works. He said that he had never imagined he would receive such a respectful Certificate of Appreciation and that he was truly moved. He also expressed his intention to continue doing everything within his ability to support matters related to Mongolian history in the future.
