In order to study, preserve, and promote Mongolia’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage, construction of the “National Museum of Mongolian Archaeology and Ethnography” is underway in Zuunmod city, Tuv Province, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth. The project is planned to be put into operation next year.

The museum, along with a restoration and research laboratory with buildings and facilities that meet international standards, will improve the environment for archaeology, paleontology, and ethnology research, create a multifaceted open space for education and scientific knowledge, and make a real contribution to local development.

The President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, visited the site in person on April 8, 2026, to review the progress of the museum’s construction.

During the visit, S. Chuluun coordinator of the working group responsible for commissioning the museum and Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, gave a presentation about the museum. The decision to establish the museum was first made by the current President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh when he was serving as the Prime Minister of Mongolia. The museum consists of a laboratory that meets international standards, a children's museum, and a library. It will be a comprehensive center for studying, repairing, and promoting tangible and intangible heritage, and will provide opportunities for developing historical tourism.

The Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, J. Aldarjavhlan, Member of Parliament J. Batjargal, Director of the “Construction Development Center” State Enterprise D. Monkhbaatar, and other relevant officials participated in the presentation and exchanged views on the progress of the construction work and resolving the issues.

This museum and laboratory complex is a national-level cultural heritage project being built in a local area. It is scheduled to be completed in the first half of next year, with current progress exceeding 80%.
