CHINGGIS KHAAN NATIONAL MUSEUM TO HOST LEADING MUSEUM DIRECTORS FROM EUROPE AND ASIA

The Chinggis Khaan National Museum continues to expand its regional and international activities while strengthening its global partnerships. A significant example of these efforts is the First International Eurasian Museum Conference, organized under the patronage of the President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh. Held under the theme “The Great Eurasian Exchange: Future Opportunities and Cooperation,” the conference will take place at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum from June 15 to 20.

Representatives from the Office of the President of Mongolia, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth, and the Chinggis Khaan National Museum provided information about the event to journalists on June 12, 2026.

The conference, which marks the opening of a new chapter in Mongolia’s cultural diplomacy with the world, will bring together directors and senior representatives from 55 museums across more than 20 countries. It is distinguished by its focus on museum cooperation, policy and management, the preservation and protection of cultural heritage, digital museums and innovation, museum education, public engagement and marketing, as well as new discussions on Eurasian museum collaboration and the establishment of cooperative networks.

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has proposed the slogan “Museums Uniting a Divided World” for 2026, emphasizing the role of museums in addressing the cultural, social, and geopolitical divisions facing the world today and in promoting mutual understanding, dialogue, accessibility, and peace. This theme is closely aligned with the significance and purpose of the conference.

The Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Academician S. Chuluun, noted that this is the first time Mongolia has hosted a gathering of directors from leading Eurasian museums. He emphasized that the forum will not only help the Chinggis Khaan National Museum promote itself internationally and expand cooperation, but will also create significant opportunities for other Mongolian museums to develop international partnerships, learn from the world’s leading museums, enrich their collections, and organize exhibitions. He further expressed confidence that the event will contribute substantially to promoting Mongolia internationally through culture, developing cultural tourism, and attracting investment and long-term benefits to the cultural and museum sectors.

Advisor to the President of Mongolia on Cultural and Religious Policy B. Sergelen, stated that for the first time, Mongolia will host a gathering of leading Eurasian museums to discuss issues of common interest. The initiative was launched by the Chinggis Khaan National Museum and has received the support of museum leaders from both Europe and Asia. Within the framework of this cultural diplomacy and soft power policy, this event marks the opening of a new chapter for the country in the international museum community. She further emphasized that the conference aligns with the cultural and humanitarian diplomacy objectives set out in the Policy and Action Program of the President of Mongolia.

Head of the Cultural Heritage Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth B. Davaatseren, emphasized that museums are spaces that contribute to comprehensive human development and create broad social impact. Successive governments and ministries have worked toward this strategic goal. He noted that the adoption of Mongolia’s independent Museum Law in 2021 has helped improve museum governance and operations. Investment in museums has steadily increased each year, and efforts will continue to strengthen achievements and enrich museum content and formats.

The Chinggis Khaan National Museum has taken the lead in organizing the conference, opening new avenues for cooperation with international museums, actively working on cooperation between Eurasian museums, and creating a space for regional joint activities, opening up new opportunities.

During the conference, museum directors will deliver presentations and engage in discussions at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, laying the foundation for numerous future collaborative projects within the museum sector. This is the first time such a broad and distinguished group of museum leaders from across Asia and Europe has convened in Mongolia.
