
During the First international conference of the Eurasian Museums, Academician S. Chuluun, Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, met officially with the directors of the World Museum Vienna, the National Museum of Finland, the Sankokan Museum of Tenri University in Japan, the National Museum of Lithuania, and the Hungarian National Museum. The parties exchanged views and expressed their mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation between their institutions.
In particular, the 100th anniversary of the World Museum Vienna will be in 2028. Director Claudia Banz proposed organizing a joint exhibition and noted the museum’s interest in Mongolian Buddhist art.
A large-scale exhibition of Asian Buddhism can be held in cooperation with museums of Central Asian countries and an international conference on Central Asian Buddhist art can be organized. Director S. Chuluun stated that the Chinggis Khaan National Museum would support such initiatives by contributing works of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar, who played a significant role in spreading Buddhism in Mongolia.
During a meeting with Gábor Zsigmond of the Hungarian National Museum, the parties agreed to organize a joint exhibition in Mongolia next September, combining an Attila-themed exhibition with exhibits on Mongolia’s Xiongnu heritage.
During a meeting with Ms. Ruta Kačkutė, Director of the National Museum of Lithuania, the parties exchanged views on the potential for organizing exhibitions in the Baltic States and explored opportunities for future cultural collaboration. In a separate meeting, Academician S. Chuluun, Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, and Ms. Naila Velinkhanli, Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijan, discussed the growing cultural cooperation between Mongolia and the countries of Central Asia. Academician S. Chuluun noted that, under the leadership of the President of Mongolia, significant emphasis has been placed on strengthening relations with Central Asian nations and promoting cultural exchange. As a result of these efforts, Memoranda of Understanding on inter-museum cooperation have been concluded. He further expressed confidence that collaboration between the two institutions would continue to expand and deepen in the years ahead.
S. Chuluun also welcomed and met with Aida Alymova, Director of the Kyrgyz Nomadic Civilization Museum, Berik Abdygaliuly, Director of the National Museum of Kazakhstan, Ibrakhimzoda Zafarsho, Director of the National Museum of Tajikistan, Jannat Khamidovna Ismailova, Director of the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan, and Nurmyrat Annacharyev, Director of the History and Local Lore Museum of Arkadag City, Turkmenistan. He thanked them for participating in the congress and emphasized the broad opportunities for future museum cooperation.
In 2026, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) issued the global call, “Museums Unite a Divided World,” underscoring the vital role museums can play in addressing the complex challenges facing humanity. In support of this initiative, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum actively contributed to its objectives by successfully organizing the conference and fostering international dialogue and cooperation.
Museum leaders from across Eurasia convened at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum to exchange perspectives on museum development, governance, and operations, as well as the preservation and safeguarding of nomadic cultural heritage. The participants also explored new opportunities for collaboration in the fields of museum practice, technology, and innovation in the modern era, ultimately reaching a shared understanding on key areas of future cooperation.
