CHINGGIS KHAAN NATIONAL MUSEUM ESTABLISHED A SMART MUSEUM ENVIRONMENT

Modernizing museum services in line with the evolving digital era has been one of the key goals of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum. To achieve this objective, the museum implemented the “Modernizing National Museum Services Based on Digital Archives” project. As part of the initiative, it redesigned its official website and installed smart digital information kiosks throughout its exhibition halls. The project was officially inaugurated on June 29, 2026.

The digital archive and integrated online platform developed through the project serve as a bridge connecting visitors from around the world with the museum's cultural heritage, free from the limitations of time and distance. In addition, the digital information kiosks installed in the exhibition halls enable both domestic and international visitors to access information without language barriers, elevating the museum's services to a new international standard.

Project results:

First, the museum's cultural heritage collections were digitized and incorporated into a digital archive, and a mobile-friendly online platform was developed to provide convenient access on smartphones. Second, smart digital information kiosks were installed throughout the museum, creating an intelligent museum environment that integrates digital technology into the physical exhibition space. Third, the project established a foundation for sustainable, independent operations by not only implementing the digital system but also strengthening the management framework to support its long-term operation and future development.

The opening ceremony was attended by Jeong Heung-ran, Resident Representative of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Mongolia, who remarked: Over the four-year implementation period, the project will support the development of digital content for the museum, enhance the professional capacity of museum staff, improve the exhibition environment, and provide equipment support. Our volunteer, Yoon Soo-bin, has played a key role in creating a digital archive of the museum's principal collections, facilitating the successful use of digital content, and laying the foundation for many other initiatives. I wish the Chinggis Khaan National Museum continued success in its development.

Yoon Soo-bin, the volunteer who planned and implemented the project, expressed her gratitude to T. Enkhtungalag, Head of the Museum's Center for External Relations and Cooperation, and the museum staff for their support of the initiative to enhance access to culture. She noted that the successful establishment of digital information infrastructure spanning both online and physical environments has become a model example for future digital museum development.
