On December 21, 2023, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum hosted the first day of unveiling of two types of stamps on the themes “Ice Age Animals” and “Inscriptions on Stones.”
The Ice Age Animals chain stamp is the first in the history of Mongolian stamps to feature an animal drawn on a rock by ancient man and a reconstructed image of the same animal. In particular, four species of animals were selected: mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, steppe bison and ostrich, whose bones and body parts were found and identified through scientific research. The artist of the stamp was B.Bayarhuu, the director of the Institute of Paleontology of the Academy of Sciences, Doctor, Professor H.Tsogtbaatar (Sh.D.), the head of the department of ancient animals and plants Khurels of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences S.Ulziitseren, Dr. N.Batbold took part in the creation of the stamps, head of the department of ancient studies, providing professional advice, paintings and materials.
As for the six "Stone Inscriptions" theme stamps, they were selected from ancient written monuments and cultural artifacts of the Mongols, such as Sogdian, Brahmian, Runic, Chinese, Mongolian and Soyombo. To create this stamp, the head of the International Association of Mongolian Brahmi Writing, the German scientist Dr.Solongod L.Khurzbaatar, Dr. A.Enkhtor, head of the medieval studies department of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences, and Dr. N.Munkhtsetseg, head of the linguistics department of the Academy of Sciences, collaborated, providing professional advice, images and materials.
